« I ve got the Spirit, but lose the feeling »

Joy Division, June 1979

I started this project in september 2010 during a master residency in Kyoto.

System of Disorder is a research laboratory about cats and crimes.

I have followed and filmed the Hanzaï Boys during two months.

Hanzaï is the meaning of criminal.

The only wizards that I found were cats.

And no one could approach them.

“(…) when we speak the word “life”, it must be understood we are not referring

to life as we know it from the surface of fact, but to that fragile, fluctuating center

which forms never reach. And if there is one hellish, truly accursed thing in

our time, it is our artistic dallying with forms, instead of being like victims burnt

at the stake, signaling through the flames.”

by Antonin Artaud (1938)

« One may at first sight be put off by the childish and worldliness – that reminds one

of a picture book or a picture-card show-of the experimental them for the anti-art.

But we must be aware of the japanism in the mental conditon of the times.

We further need to note the worldliness of K (kitawaki)’s theme contains from

the beginning, a highly cynical significance. Confining himself  in an artificial

world  and make his spirit incandescent within that world, he uses the vulgarity

of everyday things to counter itself. »
